HARMONICA SCHOOL - AN UPPER-INTERMEDIATE ONLINE COURSE: THE MUSIC STYLE EXPLORER

Harmonica school course - The music styles explorer

Disclaimer!

Once you take this harmonica course and become a distinct player, all your musician peers are going to envy this!

There’s a difference between knowing how to play a musical instrument and being a musician in actual. During the process of learning harmonica, you complete different stages wherin you acquire technical as well as theoretical knowledge. Once you’ve mastered the skill and explored the instrument, you may take one step ahead and give a touch of perfection to your prowess as a musician: e.g. by exploring various musical genres.

My experience as a musician and a composer – who has devoted many years for studying piano, saxophone, guitar and of course the blues harp – is that working on different musical styles not only enriches our technical background, but it really opens up new scenarios before our eyes and widens your horizons. Each music genre hides a treasure within itself that we as musicians may unlock with our potential – adding more to what we already possess.

Let me give you some examples:

A genre like Bluesgrass provides us a good platform to train ourselves to perform at high speeds. In the same way, Swing allows us to learn a particular way of articulating phrases and making chromatic passages.

When it comes to rhythm, Funky as well as Raggea, it can add new connotations to our style whereas Rock can teach us how to build effective phrases in minor. And Pop music? Modern genre might pave our way for playing and creating phrasing, nonetheless; pop teaches us how to design nice heart-touching melodies.

The benefits of studying different musical styles are evident when we play other typr of music as it’s only then, when they appear to be more productive or fruitful, or when we improvise or compose our own music. It is eminently clear by the way a musician, who has worked with numerous music genres, manages to cope with the perils of performing on stage and adapting to every situation confronted thereby. Conversely, you tend to play the same type of licks always, when you study only one genre, regardless of the style you apt to perform. I know many who would play blues licks even on a Celtic tune or with a classical piece of music.

You’ll learn to approach music in different possible ways after studying 6 songs that I’ve specially designed for you and included in this course. The styles we’re going to address are: Bluegrass, Swing, Rock, Modern Pop, Country and reggae.

I’ll explain to you, the idea functional behind creating each song, and thereafter, we’ll study each chorus together first and then run the whole song later. Each chorus shall be notated and explained to asisst you further during practice.

You can play along side me via the videos or on the backing tracks, and for each chorus I’ll provide you with its slower version also so you may concentrate well in the beginning.

I’ve picked the most suitable position for each song, therefore, in this course you’ll also be trained to practise playing in 1st, second, third or fifth position; of course, some tracks exist in major and others in minor!

The ship ‘Styles Explorer’ is about to set off. Come on, embark on it!
